Vertical Landing Acceleration Asymmetry

A measure of the difference in Vertical Landing Acceleration between feet. High VLA asymmetry (>25%) occurs when landing more abruptly on one limb compared to the other. This can mean either poor impact absorption on one side, or a protective strategy to offload one side. Note that a jump height asymmetry will often be reflected in a landing acceleration asymmetry, because one side is landing from a higher height.

Asymmetry measures are best used in conjunction with a baseline for each individual, as every person has inherent asymmetries.
