Impact Asymmetry
A measure of the difference in Impact Acceleration between feet, as defined by:
(R-L) / max(R,L)
High Impact Asymmetry (>20%) occurs when landing more abruptly on one limb compared to the other. This can mean either poor energy absorption on one side, or a protective strategy to offload one side. High Impact Asymmetry and GCT asymmetry on the same side indicates compensatory shifting of loading demands away from the affected or weaker limb.
Asymmetry measures are best used in conjunction with a baseline for each individual, as every person has inherent asymmetries.
