Vertical Impact

The peak accelerations in the world vertical plane as the foot contacts the ground.

Vertical Impact is calculated every time the foot contact the ground, and is a means of quantifying strategy used to absorb energy.

Note that Vertical Impact is different from the z-axis signal, because the z-axis changes orientation as the foot moves through space. Vertical Impact is purely up and down.
